Hello lovelies! I hope you've all been having a great day. Today we're going to be talking about struggles with weight and how we can go about thinking more positively about our bodies.
I think weight is something most people have struggled with at some point in their life. Some people may actually be struggling with the physical ups and downs of gaining and losing weight and some might be struggling with the mental aspect of weight. Does anyone else ever look in the mirror and think, "wow I'm so fat?" I know I do that a lot and it sucks. I hate looking in the mirror and thinking negative thoughts about the way my body is shaped, yet I do it all the time. When I don't like the way I look I immediately regret all the unhealthy things I ate that day, even though I thoroughly enjoyed eating them in the moment. This is a really difficult issue to talk about and it can lead to a lot of bad negative images of ourselves, thoughts, and habits. Today I want to share some of the things I do to help me when I'm feeling down about my weight and the way I look.
Tip #1: Look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself 3 things you LOVE about your body. Say them out loud. I know it sounds so stupid and cheesy, but it honestly makes such a difference. If you need to, play some music that makes you feel beautiful (I'll leave a playlist at the bottom). Try to focus more on what you love about yourself instead of what you dislike. Every morning when you get up, tell yourself what you love about yourself. Some days its harder than others, but with time you'll find it easier to find awesome things about your body, so be consistent with the self love.
Tip #2: Eat something healthy. Eating healthy will improve your weight and body image, but you'll also feel a lot better about yourself in general. If you eat something healthy you'll feel proud of your good choices and the way you're nourishing your body. Eating something healthy will also give you a lot more energy than a bag of chips will. Overall, you'll feel a lot better about yourself for making healthier choices (don't beat yourself up over that one cookie though).
Tip #3: Make sure you eat. Even if you're self-conscious about your weight, skipping meals is never, ever the way to go. It's dangerous for your body to skip meals, and it could lead to something worse in the future. Skipping meals can actually cause you to gain weight. When you skip a meal, your liver doesn't get a signal to stop producing insulin, so it continues to produce glucose which then gets stored as fat (news.osu.edu). This can even set you up for type 2 diabetes. Basically, this means that if you skip a meal, your body doesn't know when it'll eat next, so it starts storing more fat to prepare you for a lack of food. Besides the weight gain and drain of energy, regularly skipping meals could lead to eating disorders in the future. Of course this is worse case scenario, but make sure you're being safe and fueling your body. Go ahead and eat, just choose something healthy if you aren't feeling great.
Tip #4: Make a healthy plan. I am not a doctor or dietician, so I obviously can't make diet or exercise recommendations. The advice I want to give you is to be specific about your goals. Instead of making goals like "be healthier" and "exercise more," try something like "cut ice cream out of my diet" and "go to the gym 3 times a week." Having more specific goals will give you something to strive for and will make you feel a lot prouder when you meet them. Make sure you talk to your doctor before making any drastic changes to your lifestyle.
Tip #5: Remember that it isn't that important. I know weight may seem like the most important thing in the world right now, but there are so many things that are more important. Treat your body right, and give it what it needs. Your weight doesn't define you in any way whatsoever. Don't let it stop you from anything. If you want to wear a bikini, go for it. You don't need to worry about "dressing for your weight," because there is no such thing. If you feel good wearing something, WEAR IT. I know for a fact that you look 100% fabulous in it, so don't let anyone tell you that you don't. And remember that you are so much more than your weight. If you find yourself in a constant battle with the mirror, turn away from the negativity and go out and do something you love. The true purpose of your body is to carry you through all the things you want to in life, so give yourself the freedom to do that.
This is always a really difficult topic to give advice on. When I'm struggling sometimes people tell me that I'm beautiful just the way I am, but sometimes it just doesn't help and I can't get out of my head. I know that I basically did the exact thing that sometimes barely helps, but it really is true. Remember that you're not alone in your struggles. We all probably have difficulties dealing with weight and body image. I promise you that it will get better. It takes a lot of work, but keep going through what I've talked about today (especially Tip #1 and #5). Keep telling yourself things you love and find beautiful about your body, even if you don't think it helps. One day you're going to do that, and you'll find that they're true. One day you're going to stop hating the mirror and you're going to see just how truly beautiful your body and soul is. I wish I could give each and every one of you a hugand assure you that you will get through this and that it will get better. Give yourself a hug from me to you :).
I love you guys, and writing this has my eyes a little teary because I want you all to know just how beautiful you are. I'll leave the playlist below, or you can find it titled "BEAUTIFUL" on my Spotify (accave-us).
