Hey guys! Today's topic is extremely necessary to talk about and it's one that is extremely important to me. We're talking about respect for others. This is important and I've recently seen a lot of people who seem to have forgotten how important it is
Recently someone took the survey on my blog, but instead of using it to provide helpful feedback for me (it's intended use), they took it as an opportunity to write an extremely disgusting, racist, and disrespectful comment. I will not repeat the comment on here because it made me so uncomfortable knowing that there was someone out there who thinks that way. It was so shocking to me that someone could even type out those words, let alone believe them to be true. I can't even begin to describe how it made me feel. Guys, it absolutely broke my heart.
Every time I see a disrespectful comment, whether it be racist, sexist, derogatory, or just plain rude, it breaks my heart. How can we as a human race be so terrible to each other? We are all people. We are all here living on the same earth, experiencing life, overcoming challenges, and facing hardships. We may be different, but we are essentially the one and the same. These comments have got to stop. I always knew they were horrible, but seeing this last one really put me over the edge. We can not continue to treat each other like this. I do not care who you are, you are not better or worse then any other human being. I don't care what race you are. I don't care what gender you are, what sexual orientation you have, or what your political views are. None of these give you any right to treat people with disrespect. Often times if we look or think a certain way, we can begin to believe that we are better than others. This is not the case.
One thing that especially disturbs me is people discriminating against people for characteristics they can help. All kinds of discrimination and disrespect bother me, but I simply cannot understand this kind. How can people be so judgmental and horrible to someone just because their skin color is different? For one, they obviously can't help the color of their skin-- it was just the way they were born. And second of all, do we not see what we're discriminating against? It boils down to this: people discriminate against people who have a different amount of pigment in their skin. Are you serious?? This is what we're discriminating against? Does anyone else see how ridiculous this is? I find it disgusting and I can't even see why or how someone would think like this. The same thing goes for any other type of discrimination.
Please remember that no matter what, you have no right to make disrespectful comments to other people. You are of course entitled to your own opinion, but if it is a disrespectful one, then please keep it to yourself. No one wants to hear thoughts that bring others down. Take a reality check every once and a while and remember that your differences do not make you better or worse than someone else, therefore you have no right to be rude to anyone else.
So enough ranting about how bad it is. How can we fix this serious problem? We need to stand up for what we believe in. Do you see someone making a disrespectful comment? Call them out on it. Let them know that it isn't funny and that it's actually pretty disgusting. You can help people understand how important it is to be respectful. Most of us have access to social media, so we can use that to advocate for causes we believe in, as it is a very easy way to spread awareness. Use social media as a way to help make the world a better place, as it is so quick and easily accessible. We can also participate in events that support causes that are important to us. A great example of this is the Women's Marches around the world. I wasn't able to attend one, but I wish I could have, because I would have loved to go out and support something that is so important to me. I'm so proud and impressed to see so many people rally together for what they believe in. These are the things that are important and have amazing impacts. It's so beautiful to see people stand up for what they believe in.
So in conclusion, let's spread respect. Remember how important respect for others is. If you wouldn't want people making a certain type of comment about you, then don't make one about someone else. Think about how your words can impact the way others can perceive both themselves and you. We as people have high standards to uphold. Show respect to everyone no matter what. And if you see someone else being rude, give them a little reality check and let them know that what they're saying is not okay and that it needs to be stopped.
