"Every day, think as you wake up, today I am fortunate to be alive, I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others; to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. I am going to have kind thoughts towards others, I am not going to get angry or think badly about others. I am going to benefit others as much as I can."
~The Dalai Lama XIV
Hello loves!! Did you know a million things could go wrong throughout your day, but it can still end up being a good day? I know, that sounds crazy, but it's true. Everything is all about OUTLOOK. The quote above is a really awesome way to think about life. Read it is often as you need to.
I found a quote a while ago that has really stuck with me. It is, "Was it a bad day? Or was it a bad five minutes you milked all day?" This really stuck out to me because this is something I struggle with A LOT. If something went wrong in my life, even if it was the tiniest thing I acted like the whole world was ending. Thankfully, I've improved at having a more positive outlook lately, and having that is something that influences my happiness tremendously.
A situation can be interpreted in many different ways, and that interpretation is up to you. When something goes wrong, pause for a second and think about what good can come out of it. When I'm frustrated or upset, I find it very difficult to move on from being mad and to try and work towards being happy. Give yourself a second to feel whatever emotion it is that you're feeling. If you're mad, scream all the curse words you can think of (preferably in your head if you aren't alone), and if you're upset let yourself cry. Even though these emotions may be perceived as "bad" emotions, they really aren't. Any emotion you have is perfectly valid, and it's important to recognize it as you feel it. Once you've processed what you're feeling, close your eyes and b r e a t h e.
I know it sounds stupid, but pausing everything you're doing and taking a deep breath will help you center yourself. I find it very cleansing. With that breath, realize that you're going to start moving on. Try to think about what good can come out of the situation. Chances are, you can probably think of at least one good thing about the situation. Sometimes the emotion you're feeling from a situation is too strong to think about a positive outcome right away. That is okay. Take as much time as you need to process everything, and come back when you're ready.
Is there ever a time where absolutely nothing good is going to come out of a situation? If you've tried your hardest, but still can't find anything good, look for joy somewhere else. Stop focusing on all the bad things. Try to find joy in the little things. All the little amazing things that happen throughout the day will hopefully outweigh that one bad situation. It helps to make a list when you're struggling. When you start writing all the good things down, more and more ideas will start popping into your brain. I promise it's easier than it seems. Plus, having a list of good things is an awesome resource to have to look at if things start going downhill.
Can't think of anything good to write down? Start looking even smaller. Here's an example of a portion of a list I made one morning:
Guys, this is 8 items of a 24 item list that I wrote on the bus ride to school, all before 7:40 A.M. If I could think of 24 good things in the hour and 25 minutes that I had been up for that day, you can think of at least 4 good things that happened throughout the day. They can be as small or big as you would like, as long as they make you happy.
So remember, when something goes wrong, b r e a t h e, smile, and remind yourself that it's going to be okay. Put it in perspective. Look at the positives. The day becomes good or bad the moment you decide for it too. Don't let the world dictate how your day is. Choose how you want your day to be. It's all up to you. Choose wisely.
Thanks so much for reading!! See ya later! <3
