Hello my lovelies! If you know me, I can see why you may be skeptical about learning how to be healthy from me. I'm definitely not a health expert. I also have plenty to work on when it comes to my own heath (mainly in the food and sleep departments). But, I am a pretty happy person and I believe that happiness is a huge part of your health., so today I have 10 tips to help you start living a healthy lifestyle!
Tip #1: Get motivated!! Find the things that motivate you to get healthy!! Maybe turning on your favorite playlist will help you find the urge to workout. Maybe you need to watch some motivational YouTube videos to help you find recipes for clean eating. Let me just say, YouTube is an amazing resource. Today when I woke up I started watching some vlogs about healthy eating. I learned so much and they motivated me to eat healthy the whole day and to go on a run and do a workout video. I was watching Sarah's Day today, and I'll link her channel at the bottom of this post for you guys to watch as well!!
Tip #2: Stay positive. First of all, just being positive makes you happier and gives you a higher appreciation for all the good things in life. I also find that when I'm more positive I make healthier choices. Often times I binge eat when I'm stressed or angry, so when I have a more positive outlook on life I make better choices regarding food.
Tip #3: Maintain good hygiene. I know this sounds obvious. I hope we all know that we should shower and wear deodorant and whatnot (and if you don't, I suggest you start doing these things now). I mean doing the less noticeable things that contribute to your health. Things like cleaning your makeup brushes. I always forget to do that, but when your makeup brushes are dirty, they can lead to breakouts. If you wear headbands or scrunchies, make sure you clean them every once in a while so they don't leave buildup on your face or in your hair. Make sure to take care of indirect impacts on your health.
Tip #4: Drink more water. Bring water with you everywhere. Always having it on hand will remind you drink water more often. Some people say using a straw helps them to drink more water, and others like writing times on the side of their water bottles to track how much water they should be drinking by a certain time. Adding lemon or fruit for a healthy burst of flavor in your water can help you feel more inclined to drink more. Do what you need to do to help yourself drink more water.
Tip #5: Get more sleep. This is something I am horrible at, but I know I need to work on. I'm a huge night owl who loves to sleep late. Even though I like being up late, I always feel super lazy and waste away the rest of the next day. Going to bed early and getting lots of sleep is so important for your health. It helps keep your emotions in check and get you ready for the day. I find myself feeling more patient and positive when I'm not tired.
Tip #6: Clean your room. When my room is dirty and unorganized, it stresses me out and I can't think. Cleaning my room makes me feel so much more organized and it makes me feel like I can accomplish anything. It's also so lovely to come home to a clean room after a long day and just relax. Having a clean space makes it easier to concentrate if you're working on homework and makes for a more relaxing place to fall asleep in. This means you'll be more efficient when doing your homework so you can go to bed earlier and easier.
Tip #7: Get organized. I 100% recommend using a planner. Using a planner gives you a place to write down what you need to do and to schedule major events. My planner has both monthly and weekly views. I use the monthly part to write down when major things are due, when I have tests and quizzes, and when I have dance. I use the weekly part to write down my homework for each day. Having a planner or a to-do list gets everything you need to do out of your brain and onto paper which clears up space in your brain and decreases stress. It also helps you figure out what you need to do and makes you more productive.
Tip #8: Develop a healthy relationship with food. This is something I've been working on. When I try to stay healthy, I usually end up reaching a breaking point and start binging on sweets. Instead, start listening to your body. Find out what it needs to eat. Find out what will fuel it. Sometimes you need a taco and even if it's not the healthiest option, your body will tell you what's right for you. The important thing is to stay as healthy as possible, but to not beat yourself up if you slip up and eat something you shouldn't. Food is a necessary part of life so put yourself in a healthy relationship with it.
Tip #9: Forget about the numbers. Don't count calories and don't obsess over the number on the scale. Counting these things will cause you to develop an unhealthy relationship with, well, health. Being healthy shouldn't be an obsessive math project. It should be a lifestyle and a way to help improve your energy and happiness. Do it for you, not for the numbers.
Tip #10: Focus on how you feel instead of how you look. I know how hard it can be when you've been trying and trying to get fit and you look in the mirror and you still feel... bleh. It can be super discouraging. To help you feel better, instead of focusing on the way your stomach looks in a bikini (it still looks fabulous, by the way), focus on how much more energized you feel from eating healthier. Focus on all the amazing things your body is benefitting from instead of the negative illusion your mirror may be giving you. Your body is capable of so many wonderful things. Focus on giving it what it needs to be successful instead of getting caught up on the material things. Your body is beautiful, but it's main purpose is to be a healthy vessel to carry you through life. Live a healthy lifestyle so that your body can do everything it needs to do to get you living the your life the way that is meant to be lived.
Like I said, I'm not a health expert, but these are some of the things I do that really benefit me and my health. If you try any of these out, let me know how they work out for you!! Remember to be healthy for yourself, not for the number on the scale or for the cute boy in your math class. If cute math boy is a good man for you, he's going to like you no matter what, so don't ever change for him.
