Anyone else having a rough year? School has been way harder and busier this year and barely a day has gone by without me being stressed. I feel like I've been working like crazy but it feels like every time I finish something on my list there's like 12 more new things I still have to do. I've been in a cycle of overworking myself without ever crossing the finish line of stuff to do and it has been frustrating to say the least. FORTUNATELY there is still hope and good things in the world, and I wanted to talk about how to handle some of the stress that comes along with school.
To the girl who is stressed 24/7... Hi. Welcome to my world. I know how it feels. Be proud of what you've accomplished so far and cut yourself some slack. It's okay if you've only done two things on the list of twenty. Congratulate and recognize yourself for what you've done so far. Appreciate what you're doing even when you're stressed. Don't let the stress overcome you. I know it's way easier said than done, but try to stay in a good mood and control the stress. Don't let the stress control you. If you're in a positive mood you'll be way more efficient in tackling your list of to-do's. Do what you need to do to create a positive environment to get things done. Make some hot chocolate, light a candle, listen to some music if it helps you focus. Stay happy and kick stress it butt.
To the girl who can't find the good among the stress... Hi again. This is also me. In order to feel good you have to find the good. Appreciate the little things. Make a list of the things you enjoy and that you're grateful for. Stop saying you hate everything because chances are you don't. Focus on the things you enjoy about school or whatever it is that you're stressed about and keep them in mind when you're tempted to scream about how much you hate anything and everything about school. Make sure you're making time for the things you love. Don't let school consume you. Yes, it will end up taking a lot of your time, but it doesn't have to take all of it. Take a 20 minute study break to talk to your mom or call your friends or watch an episode of Netflix. Let yourself relax and incorporate things that you love into your everyday school/study routine to make it better.
To the girl who stays up until 2 every night to finish her homework... Don't. I know you have stuff to do but school is not worth risking your health. You need sleep to function properly, so by pulling all-nighters regularly, you're really just sabotaging your ability to do your work efficiently. Instead of staying up the night before something is due, look at your schedule and take advantage of the time you have. If you know you have a huge project due in a month, start it now, not 3 days before it's due. Work on it a little each day and it won't be that bad. If you have an extra 10 minutes at the end of class, use it to start homework from another class instead of scrolling through your phone. It'll make the difference. Make sure you're efficient with your studying and homework time by getting rid of distractions and giving yourself what you need to be productive. Too tired to keep your eyes open? Take a 20 minute nap before starting your homework. You'll feel better and it'll cut down the time it would have taken to do something while sleep-deprived.
To the girl who's tired of doing 4 hours of homework after 8 hours of school... Girl, do I feel you on this one. If you can't bring yourself to start hours of homework after spending hours at school, then don't. Take a break before starting homework. You're probably just burnt out and need to give yourself a second before diving into homework. You don't need to feel guilty about not focusing on school 27/7. Cut yourself some slack and take a second to breathe and do something you enjoy.
To the girl who's tired of being told to calm down... It's natural that school will bring about stress and competition, and it can get to you. I know the worst thing someone can say to you when you're stressed is "just calm down, everything will be okay," but listen to them every once in a while. Yes, there's stress and competition for the best grades to get into the best schools or to get the best job, but just know that you can find happiness no matter where you end up. Trust that things will work out and that you can be happy even if you fall short of the dream school or dream job.
To the girl who's done with school consuming her life... DON'T WORRY. IT GETS BETTER. Things will be okay. You're going to get into college. It may not be your dream school, but you're going to end up being happy wherever you go as long as you work hard at finding things you love about the school and staying positive. School is important, but it doesn't need to be your whole life. Sometimes you will need to prioritize homework over something fun, but don't let it completely destroy your social life. Have study dates with your friends and find other ways to make school work seem less like work and a little more bearable. Things will be okay and they will work themselves out.
To the girl who thinks school is pointless and a waste of time... Realizing the purpose of school is a game changer. It may suck to have to do so much right now, but know that working hard in school now is going to prepare you to get into the college you want, so you can study what you want, get the job that you want, and get the life you're dreaming of. There is purpose behind the process, so trust it and hustle hard so it can all pay off.
School can suck but that doesn't mean life needs to. You got this, and you can keep pushing through. It's all going to pay off, I promise.
Thank you so much for reading!! See ya later! <3
