Hello my beautiful souls!! Today we're going to talk about living your best life! I'm going to share some tips on how to get happy, love yourself, and make the most out of every single day. I'm probably going to do more of these posts in the future because I'd love to share some quick tips on how to boost your mood. Hopefully you'll find these to be original and maybe we'll learn something new!!
Tip #1: Remember you have your life for a reason! This can be difficult to remember when things start going downhill. If life has been especially rough lately, take a step back and remember why you're here. You have this life for a reason. Maybe God gave you this life, or maybe that isn't really your thing (both are perfectly awesome ways of thinking). Either way, you have a PURPOSE. What is your purpose? I believe that mine is finding ways to help people feel better, and that's what I plan to dedicate my life to. No matter what your purpose, remember you were given this life to be YOU, and that is an extremely important role in the world. I know it's so cheesy, but it is so true! Without you, life would definitely suck!! You are so needed and loved, so always remember why you are here. Live out your purpose.
Tip #2: Find something you like to learn about. Maybe it's your favorite subject in school, maybe it's not. But there is always going to be something in this world that you want to learn about! There is something that will spark your interest, and something that you're passionate about. I've recently started to pursue a relationship with God, and it has been extremely interesting for me! I love learning new things about God. I've been watching a lot of videos, I'm beginning to go to church, and I've been journaling a ton about it. So find something you really enjoy and start expanding your knowledge on the topic. I feel like nowadays school drains people and makes them think they hate learning. Even if you feel like this, I can promise you that you don't hate you learning. You probably just don't enjoy the topics you're learning about, so find a new topic that you love and do everything in your power to learn about. I promise you that it'll be worth it to learn something new.
Tip #3: Turn off your notifications. Guys, we spend so much time on our phones, myself included. I recently turned my notifications off for all social media, and it was such a good decision. It felt a little weird at first, but I promise you'll use your phone wayyyyy less if you're not constantly being bombarded with notifications. I found that I'm only checking social media when I actually want to go on it instead of feeling like I have to respond to every comment, like or Snapchat right away. It's so cleansing and I'm spending a lot more time looking at the world around me instead of my phone screen.
Tip #4: Set reminders. This point has a slight contrast to the one above it, but as we know, we all spend a lot of time on our phone. Use that to your advantage. Set reminders to help you remember to do what you need to do. I don't mean reminders like "turn this in tomorrow," but ones like "live my best life." I know that sounds SO cheesy, but I promise it helps. I set a reminder on my phone that says "live like Jesus," and every time I see it it reminds me to do something bigger than myself and to love others. Use whatever phrase you need to help keep you motivated. It's awesome to see something like that when you look down at your screen and it instantly motivates me and puts me in a better mood.
Tip #5: Listen to some good music. This doesn't mean listen to music that other people tell you is quality music. This means listening to something that genuinely makes you feel good. I do like to get music recommendations from people, but don't ever feel like you have to like a certain sound just because others tell you it's good. Find something you love and just dance your heart out to it. Someone took my survey and asked me to link my Spotify username, so it's accave-us. Obviously you don't have to like what I like, but if you want to check it out feel free!
Tip #6: Journal!! Journaling is so amazing. I've been doing it a lot lately and it makes me feel a lot better. Journaling is really personal, so you can make it 100% your own. I use mine to write mostly positive and motivational messages to myself and to take notes on things I'm learning about that make me happy. A lot of my friends journal and they draw pictures (I don't because of my utter lack of artistic ability). Use it to talk about what makes you angry or sad, or anything that you need to use it for. There is no right or wrong way to journal, so use it for your own needs and benefits, and hopefully it will make you feel better. Just pour out your thoughts and questions about anything and everything.
Tip #7: Find a good book. Reading is seriously so underrated. A lot of people say they hate reading, but I think they just haven't found the right book. Personally, I love realistic fiction about high schoolers trying to figure it all out because it's relatable to me. I will also read anything and everything by John Green. Find a little time in the day to pick up a book and stop worrying about anything else on your mind that may be stressing you out. A lot of us say we don't have time to read, but if we spent a little less time on our phones, we would definitely have enough time to pick up a book for a few minutes everyday.
Tip #8: Be SPONTANEOUS!!! Do something crazy! Safe, but crazy!! A lot of times I miss out on plans because we didn't have enough time to plan out how everything is going to work. Lately I've just been trying to take hold of any opportunity I have, even if the planning isn't perfect. Is there something you've always wanted to try? DO IT! Don't let yourself hold yourself back. Do something you never thought you would. Step outside your comfort zone. Life is going to be a whole lot more fun if you're going on spontaneous adventures than if you're waiting around for something to happen. You need to be the one to make it happen. Get out there and live your best life!!
Tip #9: Know your limits. We can try, but we can't do everything. This is not in a "you can't accomplish all your dreams" kind of way. This is a "it's impossible to have perfect grades all the time, and participate in a sport, and do volunteer work, and join a club, and balance a social life, and have a perfect sleep schedule, and take time out of the day for yourself, and have a job" kind of way. There is simply not enough time in the day to do everything. Everyone says you have to be perfect and do all these things to get into college or have a successful future. Honestly though, you don't. Pick a few things you really enjoy and can successfully balance. The trick is to do what you can and still be happy. Don't sacrifice your life because you think life will be better in the future if you do. Obviously we need to prepare for the future, but that doesn't mean life needs to miserable while we do that. Let's live our best lives NOW instead of waiting for the future to do so.
Tip #10: Look at the good in every single day. Not everyday is going to be 100% good. But there is going to be at least one good thing that happened in a day. Instead of saying a day was bad because a couple of unideal things happened, pick out the things that made the day great! Focus on the good instead of the bad. This can be very difficult when life keeps beating you down, but hold your head up and bring out the positives that happened. Think of what you're grateful for. Think about how blessed you are to have so-and-so in your life. Find something you loved in the day. Write it down if you need to. Hold onto those good moments and remember that even though life can't be perfect, it can be pretty dang good the majority of the time.
I hope you guys enjoyed this post! I based most of this off of feedback I received from you guys, and I hope I did a good job talking about it.
