Hey guys!!! Today's post is basically going to be like a Youtube video in blog format! I love watching routine videos on Youtube so I was inspired to create my little version of one of those on here. This post gives a little overview of how I set up an afternoon routine when I get home from school, and I hope it can help some of you guys be productive as well!
When I get home from school, I'm pretty burnt out. After waking up early and dragging myself through the day it's really difficult for me to start my homework right away. So instead, I'd rather spend a little time relaxing before I start my homework. I know I'm not going to be productive immediately after school, so I don't want to waste my time trying to force myself to do something I can't do. It's honestly just not worth it to torture myself when I know it's not the time I work best, so I choose to take a little time for myself instead.
So, when I come home I like to make make myself a snack and then do a little detoxing to get myself motivated to start my afternoon. I really enjoying watching a motivational vlog (I highly recommend Kalyn Nicholson) or working out. It sounds weird, but working out actually helps me feel less tired and worn out because I'm waking myself up and getting the adrenaline pumping. I have dance 3 days a week, so that normally just counts as my workout if that's how I'm choosing to get myself motivated that day.
These are just things that motivate me to get my afternoon going, so find things that work for you! Maybe reading a book gets you motivated, or hanging out with friends before you start studying. Just do what you need to do to get yourself in a productive headspace. Also if you have any good ways to get motivated comment them at the end of the post (I told you this was YouTube inspired)!
After I'm in the right mindset to start my homework, I get myself organized. I start by cleaning up the space I'll be working in and putting my phone away so I don't get distracted. I also use a planner (y'all already know, I talk about it 24/7), so I look at what I need to do and prioritize. I like to start off with the smaller, easier tasks, which I know is usually recommended against, but for me it gives me a little more time to prepare for the more difficult work. I'm also a very accomplishment-oriented person, and checking something off my list gets me motivated to finish everything else on the list, so I like to start with things I can accomplish easily. This might not work for everyone, so just choose what works for you!
After I'm in a good place, I just work until I get my stuff done! I take some breaks when I need them so I don't get frustrated and overwhelmed, and I take these by doing easier tasks, texting my friends, our doing something in my nighttime routine so even though I'm taking a break, it's still pretty productive.
Once I'm done with my homework and my nighttime routine (which basically just consists of brushing my teeth, taking my makeup off, showering, and doing my skincare routine), I've started doing something that has honestly been life changing. I'm usually up pretty late anyways, so I decided to start taking an hour out of my night to do the things that I "don't have time to do." There are so many things I always say I want to do but then I use the excuse of not having enough time to do them even though when I totally do. So in my hour, I set a timer and put my phone away and make it off limits and start doing things I've been wanting to do for a while. I've been blogging, working on emails for my blog, doing more personal writing, reading, watching inspirational videos, cleaning my room and doing laundry, and just other little things I want to do or need to do to feel better.
This little hour has helped me so much. It gives me something to look forward to the whole afternoon, which motivates me to work harder and get more done more efficiently. It also gives me space to work on my overall goals. I highly recommend doing this for at least half an hour every night, because it'll really change up your evening.
This little afternoon routine has really got me feeling more productive and more fired up about life. Some days it differs depending on how much dance or homework I have, but trying to stick to this general routine has been super beneficial to my life. This is a routine that personally works for me, so listen to who you are and how you work and create your own version of this. Pay attention to when you are most focused on certain tasks, and do them at that time. Everyone is different, so we all work differently! But if you try any of these tips out or if you have any of your own to add, comment something on this post, or email me, or hit me up on the 'gram!!
Have a fabulous and productive afternoon! Thanks for reading!
