It's actually ironic how much I procrastinated on writing this article.... but today we'll be talking about how to avoid that!! Getting things done on time is especially important when you're super busy. I've been slammed this year, and I know that if I had procrastinated on some of my school stuff, life would be way harder for me right now. A lot of the reason why we procrastinate so much is because of a lack of motivation, so let's talk about how to get motivated!!
It can be really hard to get motivated when it's not something you're interested in. If you have homework in a class that you hate or don't care about, it can be really hard to bring yourself to work on it. My advice for you is to motivate yourself with something fun. Tell yourself that as soon as you finish your physics problems, you can treat yourself to an episode of Friends. You can also find ways to make studying fun. When I'm studying for a subject that I don't really love, I like to listen to music to help me enjoy studying a little more. It's hard when you're forced to take subjects that you don't love, but as you get older you start to have more of a say in what you get to study, so just think of it as preparation for all the good things to come.
I know I say it soooo much, but it's so important to stay organized. Write down what you need to do and when you need to do it to help organize your life. My planner is like my second Bible. I have everything in it. It's so helpful for me to write down everything that I need to do and to see it in one place. It helps keep me organized, because I know when I'll have time to work on homework or blog during the week. It helps me keep track of my homework, and because everything is written down, it doesn't take up any space in my brain. You can use a planner (mine was $8 at Marshall's!!) or the calendar/reminders on your phone, just write. it. down.
After you have everything organized, it really just goes back to motivation. I wish I had a list of 10 ways to help you to never procrastinate, but unfortunately I don't. Because everyone is different, different things work for different people. It really comes down to self-motivation. Motivate yourself by doing something you love when you're finished. Think of how nice it would feel to not have to rush around last minute for a huge project. I love filling in the little check-boxes next to my homework when I'm finished, and it gives me a huge sense of accomplishment. Find the thing that motivates you-- a good book, Parks & Rec, that face mask you've been saving for a special occasion, the satisfaction of crossing something off your list, or whatever else it may be-- and wait until you're completed it to give yourself that reward.
Procrastination is the worst, and it can get the best of us. No one can be perfectly put together at all times, but getting things done on time with no rush really helps balance out your life and your stress levels, so take a deep breath, suck it up, and go make a dent into that scary list of things to do. I promise you'll feel better and less stressed.
Thanks so much for reading!! See ya later! <3
