Hello my dudes! I hope everyone had a FABULOUS President's Day weekend. I'm going to ask you all some questions, and I want you to be 110% truthful when you answer them. What is your passion? What makes you happy? What is your favorite thing in the world?
What was the first thing that popped into your head when I asked that? Take a second to think about the first thing you thought of. That, my friend, is your true passion. Was it different than you expected? Chances are it might have been. Sometimes we get so caught up in pursuing what we think our passion is that we don't even realize we might not even like it anymore. I feel like a lot of us think our passion is the thing we've done forever or what we're good at. A lot of you have probably played a sport for most of your life. But do you still enjoy it after all these years? If the answer is yes, then that's awesome and you should keep doing what you're doing. But you might have answered no. You might be doing something because its "your thing," or because you've done it forever, or because you think that because you loved it in second grade that you still love it now.
Think about what your passion is. Are other things in your life getting in the way of your ability to pursue what you want to do? If they are, maybe you should check out your priorities. I'm definitely not saying that you need to quit everything just to focus on something new. Maybe just see if you could lessen the time you spend on other things to make time for your favorite activity. For example, say that your real passion is painting. The problem is that playing travel baseball is really getting in the way of the time you would like to use for painting. You still love baseball and you don't want to quit. So, instead of playing travel baseball, try playing on a rec team. Find ways to reduce some of the time you spend in other places so you're able to focus more time on doing what you love.
For some this might work really well. But for others, maybe not so much. Some of you might have parents or friends that put pressure on you to do certain things with your time. If you've played a certain sport for forever or been in a certain club for as long as you can remember, it might feel like you have to keep doing it just because you always have. If this is the case, talk to your parents. Explain to them that you haven't found as much joy in ________ lately and that you would like to spend more time doing ________. Hopefully they'll understand that it's what you really want and they'll help you go after it.
A lot of times we may feel embarrassed or ashamed of what we're passionate about. It may seem like you're doing something too different. You might feel alone in what you want to do. Maybe you think that what you're doing is too "nerdy." But guys, here's the thing: We can't be ashamed of being happy. We can't be ashamed of doing what we love. We need to grab on to our passion with both hands and follow where it takes us. Do what you love. Don't hold back. You shouldn't live your life without doing the things you love because you're hiding behind embarrassment or fear. Just do what you love, and don't worry about what others think about you. I have a secret for you: if you're scared that people will think you're weird if you do what you love, then you probably don't want to be friends with them anyways. Don't hide yourself from joy because you're scared of what others will think of you. That's no way to live. Live your life according to YOUR rules and YOURSELF. Live you life for YOU and what YOU love and what YOU'RE passionate about. Don't even worry about what others will think of you. Just do it because you want to and you enjoy it. If it upsets someone, then that's their problem and they probably don't deserve to be around such a wonderful soul like yourself. It can be scary, but have the courage to do what you love. I want all of you to know that you are worthy and capable of doing what you love. Conquer your goals and your dreams. LIVE YOUR LIFE TO THE FULLEST MY BEAUTIFUL FRIENDS!!
