"here it is, a big, beautiful, fascinating world... Do something with it!"
- from love wins by rob bell
i bought the book love wins today and it's already been life changing and i'm only 48 pages in.
i absolutely love that quote. i think we either become getting caught up in our own small worlds, or we look at the vastness of the whole world and we're too intimidated to go out there and offer it what we have. but this big, beautiful, fascinating world that is both bigger and smaller than we can ever imagine is waiting for us to change it. this doesn't mean you have to go out there and single-handedly solve world hunger, or negotiate peace between all countries, or cure every disease (although you very well could!). what it means is that you just need to go out there and do something, ANYTHING, that makes the world a little bigger and more beautiful and more fascinating.
i know this all sounds lovely, but there's the difficult part where you're supposed to find out what exactly what it is that you need to do that will change the world for the better. i found the solution in a macklemore song that says, "find something that you love and do it everyday, do that for the rest of your life and eventually, the world will change."
world changing doesn't mean solving every problem that has ever existed, it just means choosing to follow the thing that drives you to create and love and what breathes purpose into your everyday existence. the life is good slogan is "do what you love, love what you do." it's really as simple as that. if you want life to be good, all you have to do is 1.) find what you love and 2.) do that thing!! we tend to overcomplicate it, but let's start bringing it back to the basics.
the world has come so far, but we also have a ways to go. as much good as we've done, there's always room to be better. there's always something more we can bring to the table. something more we can offer. the world belongs to each and every one of us, which makes it our responsibility to take care of it. i mean this in so many ways. we need to take care of the environment, from the forests, to the deserts, to the oceans. take care of each country, whether you live in it or not. take care of every person, whether they look, speak, or believe differently than you do. to take care of people when they see the world differently than you do. the earth is the only place we can currently inhabit, so we need to work hard for it to be able to reflect all of its beauty. we often get scared of how big of a world we live in that we forget that it's our home that wants to serve us well.
we deserve a world that makes us feel at home, and as the people who live here, it's our job to make sure it's as homey as possible. you have a purpose in this world. find it. harness it. use it. be a world changer. the world is waiting for all of your beautifully unique self. go show it who you are.
