Hello beautiful humans!! I was reading my devotional tonight and it was talking about how we should always remember to "count it all joy." This isn't a religious article, but that's just a little insight about where this post idea comes from! We're gonna start off by talking about some upcoming changes for the blog and then I'll talk a little bit more about why I like this little mantra so much, so stay tuned!!
So, I really liked this little segment of tonight's devo (it's from Jesus Calling if you wanna check it out) and it really brought me back to the foundation of my blog. It all started with a love for journaling and an account on Instagram where I shared little inspiring posts every so often and it eventually made its way over to my blog platform. I got my blog name from the song Something Beautiful by NEEDTOBREATHE, we got this bad boy up and running, and I've been doing it ever since.
But lately I've been in a bit of a rut. I've spent most of my focus on networking and promotion for my blog; learning about how to blog and looking at other people, but I haven't done as much posting. All the promo and learning stuff has been awesome and I've loved every second of it because it really interests me, but reading this "count it all joy" segment inspired me to dive back into the roots of why I started blogging and to make blogging my own again.
I've decided it's time for a bit of a revival of the blog. I think my main struggles with blogging stem from the fact that I believe it needs to fit the same vibe it did when I started. But I've changed so much since I began blogging that I'm beginning to realize that it doesn't make sense to keep it the same. How can I preach about the importance of change and growth, yet neglect it in my own life? On the own platform I discuss it on? Crazy.
When I first started blogging I was really into writing pages upon pages of paragraphs about how I feel. But lately my journaling has turned into a lot of lists: lists of things I like, lists on how I can make positive changes, lists of what I love about life & myself & others. I think my blog should reflect that, so expect some more short and sweet posts dabbled in with the usual longer ones.
I want to start making my blog a more accurate reflection of what I love to do and how my life is going instead of trying to keep it the same as it was a year ago. I'm so different from who I used to be, and I want this blog to be a space that reflects the changes in my life, because I really like them!! I'm in a really good place in my life right now, and I'm the happiest I've been in a while, and I want the blog to be a place where we can have conversations and reflections about anything & everything!
In short, I just want to make this a place that's a more accurate reflection of my messy, beautiful life, so get ready to see the real me!! Woohoo for being public on the Internet with everything I go through!!
This post is already getting pretty long, so I'll keep this next part short and sweet, but I do want to touch on the whole idea of counting it all joy. Something I've learned a lot lately is that we can't always control the situation we're put in, but we can always choose how we react to it. We have to realize that we have the ability to choose to be optimistic about any situation we're put in. So let's count it all joy. We've got nothing to lose, right? Let's go in with the glass-half-full kinda perspective. Go for it even if it feels forced. Sometimes we just need to convince ourselves to think more positively, and it will eventually work some magic and get you into the habit of being optimistic. So fake it till you make it, because you will make it, and any sort of positive thought that you have will start to impact your attitude and your actions. Choose to align your thoughts with the way you want to feel. You deserve to be happy, so don't let the little things get you down. Life is crazy short, so let's just go into it with a bit of a YOLO attitude (while still being smart about the decisions we make) and with a lot more love for ourselves, our situations, and the people around us!!
