Friends!! If you're like me, you're starting to realize that summer is halfway through and you haven't even touched your summer work. The lit books are collecting dust on your desk. The math worksheets have been printed, but are currently shoved out of sight because you have literally no idea what a logarithmic identity is or how to even begin to tackle the infinite pages of math you don't understand. Sound familiar?
After starting my AP Lang homework last night, I realized how much I stress over school. I stress over grades, over assignments, and over group projects where no one decides to start their portion of the project until 10:30 pm the night before its due. But mostly I stress about college.
For the longest time I'd think, college is so far away, I don't need to worry about it. But now, with my junior year creeping up on me, I'm realizing college really isn't so far away and I should probably get myself together and like, take the SAT or something. Colleges starting to really stress me out. I would absolutely LOVE to go to Princeton.... but they have a 6.5% acceptance rate, which means the odds are stacked highly against my favor.
So should I just give up? Should I quit trying because it's going to be impossible to get in? Heck to the freaking no my friend!! I'm obviously not going to just give up on tying to get into my dream school just because their acceptance rate scares the living daylights out of me. I'm going to do my best, but I'm not going to go crazy stressing over it.
Here's the thing: we all have a school we dream of attending. For some of us, the dream may become a reality, but for others it may not. That sucks, but I promise you it'll be okay. I know we spend so much time thinking about one school, but we tend to forget that there's a million other options out there. Even if we don't get into our dream school, that doesn't mean we won't be happy anywhere else. Even if it's not where we thought we would end up, we'll still end up somewhere, and we'll be happy there. College is crazy because it's a place full of opportunity. So maybe you don't get into your dream school, but if you did, you wouldn't meet all of the great people you'll met at your #3 school. You won't get the same experiences anywhere else, and that's what makes it special. I believe that no matter where you end up, you'll make it your home. And if you absolutely hate it? You can transfer, or look into a different major that you may enjoy more, or you can switch roommates; there are so many things you can do to change up the experience to make it more enjoyable. But in the end, all the good memories will outweigh the bad ones.
So throw aside your stress about college. Relieve yourself of the pressure to get into a certain school. Obviously still push yourself and work as hard as you can to achieve your goals. Don't throw away what you have going for you, and try your very best to make sure your GPA begins in a number greater than zero. If you fall short of your dream school, don't worry about it. It'll be upsetting. Give yourself a moment to focus on any negative emotions, then take a breath and focus on all the exiting things the college you did get into has to offer. It may not be what you expected, but who cares? That's the beauty in it all.
I know I'm writing this as someone who hasn't even applied or gotten into a college yet, but I just want to remind everyone out there (including myself!) that things are going to be okay. You'll end up where you end up and it's going to be awesome. Good luck, my friends! You got this!!
Thanks so much for reading!! See ya later! <3
