Hey beautiful!! Today we're going to be talking about body and self love because it's freakin' difficult!! I honestly don't think I've ever met anyone who has been 100% confident with their body 100% of the time. I have friends who have amazing bodies, yet are scared to go to the pool because they're insecure. It's so crazy to me because I'm just like, "dude, do you see how good you look????" It happens to everyone, and that honestly really sucks, but it happens, so we gotta figure out how to fix it.
The reason it's hard to have body confidence is because it's all internal. It all has to do with how we view ourselves. It's so difficult because no matter how good we look, we can always find someone who's skinner, who has clearer skin and a bigger butt. Most of our insecurities stem from comparisons. We'll see someone and we'll think, well yeah I'm skinny, but not like her. Yeah my skin is clear right now, but she never breaks out. It's hard when certain body types are "trending." Now, the whole "goal" body is a super skinny waist with a really nice butt and legs. Not to shame anyone who looks or is trying to look like that, but that's not the definition of beautiful. In order to be beautiful you don't have to look the way that social media and the world tells you you have to look. Beautiful really does come in all shapes, sizes, and colors.
I think we should redefine beauty. I don't think beauty should be about how we look, but instead about how we feel and act. We should make beauty about strength. We should measure our bodies, not in size, but in what they're capable of. This will still be different for everyone, but we should focus on our progress. This is why working out is important. Instead of focusing on how much weight you are or aren't losing, focus on how much stronger you're getting. I like to do workout videos in my room, because 1.) it's free, and 2.) I can see my progress. I don't want to spend a ton of money to join a gym when I can get equally amazing results from YouTube videos at home. I also get stressed out about working out in front of people, and going to gym would stress me out way too much because I would have no idea how to do anything. But doing these videos makes me feel really good about myself. At first, when I did a workout video I couldn't get through it without taking breaks. It's so great when you can finally make it through a video completely, because you can feel your body getting stronger and the workout getting easier. It makes a difference, and I feel beautiful when I accomplish a workout because I'm improving myself and getting stronger. I love both Blogilates and Sarah's Day for workouts (you can search them on YouTube or hit their names for the links).
Other than strength, beauty is about feeling beautiful inside and out. This means fueling your body right. Eat foods that make you feel good, and LISTEN TO YOUR BODY!!!! Life is all about balance. You want to eat as healthy as possible, but if your body tells you to eat a burrito, then eat one. If you restrict yourself, you'll develop an unhealthy relationship with food. I struggled a lot with this for the past month or two. I tried to eat healthy, and when I messed up I would beat myself up over it and regret eating what I ate for another day or two. That's not healthy. We make mistakes and that's okay. I fixed my mindset though. After eating healthier, I realize I feel better and stronger and happier. Fueling my body right makes it easier to workout and I feel less gross and bloated. Last night my family made brownies, and I ate some, but I didn't feel bad about it. That was a huge improvement. My body wanted one, so I listened to it. Life is too short to miss out on family brownie night. Also, eating healthy is hard when you first start out, but I promise it gets easier. Find healthy foods that you actually like, and don't force yourself to eat something you hate just because it's good for you. There are plenty of healthy options out there and there's guaranteed to be something you love.
Beauty also has to do with treating yourself. Find products that work with your skin. Do face masks and paint your nails and do bath bombs because it's fun so why not. Wash your face twice a day. Look up skincare hacks on Pinterest and find something that works for you. Everyone's skin and body is different, so don't rely on what your friends use because it may not work the same way on your face as it does on theirs.
Notice how I never mentioned makeup in this post. I didn't talk about losing weight. I didn't talk about how to get the perfect body. I talked about getting strong, fueling your body right, and treating yourself. That's because that's where the true beauty comes from. Strength, not makeup. You're beautiful with and without makeup. Accept yourself as you were designed. You don't need to look like every other girl on your Instagram feed to be beautiful. You just need to feel good about where you are and you just need to look like you. Do things that make your body feel good, and you'll feel good. Obviously there will still be days where you don't feel your best, and that's okay. Get out of the mirror, and go do something you enjoy. If there's a something about your body that makes you insecure, work on strengthening it. If you're insecure about your stomach, target that area and watch to see how strong your core gets. Be proud of your strength and progress, and don't worry about how many pounds you lose. It's not about the numbers, it's about the feeling. Work on stuff to celebrate what your body can do and to bring happiness and confidence about what your body is capable of. Self-love is definitely a journey, but as long as you focus on what you're gaining (strength, confidence, joy) and not what you're losing (weight, fat) you'll be good to go. Love your beautiful selves and celebrate what you're capable of!!
